‘Prison Break’ Game out soon

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

Prison Break may almost be finished on TV, but the video game is getting a second chance.

Before the series was killed at the end of its fourth season, the Prison Break video game was cancelled last spring by Brash Entertainment, the now defunct publisher of games based on movie and TV licences.

But Slovenia-based developer Zootfly, which was producing the game for Brash, decided to fund the project to completion.

It has just signed a deal with publisher Deep Silver, part of Britain-based Koch Media, to release Prison Break this spring.

“The cancellation was a blessing in disguise because we got to spend more time on the key gameplay features and get rid of the half-baked ideas Brash management pushed on us,” Zootfly chief executive Bostjan Troha said from Slovenia.

Releasing a licensed video game when the property on which it’s based no longer exists is a difficult business proposition, but Troha said he’s counting on the show’s loyal fan base, many of whom protested its death, to support the title.

The CEO said he’s still working to secure some of the show’s actors to do voice work.

Prison Break and Where the Wild Things Are, which is also set for a spring release but is still searching for a publisher, are the last of Brash’s games that will see the light of day.

It’s been a few weeks since Michael Scofield said his final farewells in the Prison Break series finale, and everyone wondering what Wentworth Miller would do next can rest, for now. Today TV Guide Magazine confirmed that Miller will be guest starring on the season premiere of Law and Order: SVU, an episode that airs Wednesday, September 23 at 9pm on NBC.

This news comes shortly after confirmation that stars Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay will be staying with SVU despite early reports that the two might leave, If you’re a Wentworth fan worried that he’ll be playing a bad guy…you’re probably right. However, the initial character description seems positive, as Miller will play an NYPD officer who saves a rape victim. However, I’ve seen enough episodes of Law and Order: SVU to know it’s never that simple.

Now that Prison Break’s all but over–well, it’s done, but there’s still that DVD, in case you’ve been waiting to buy it, or haven’t seen it online–it’s time to ask about what the show’s cast have been up to. First sneaks, this time, goes to Jodi Lyn O’Keefe, or that scary Gretchen girl; in an interview she reveals a bit about what she’s been up to after the show, and perhaps a few details on “The Final Break”… provided we pretend we haven’t seen it yet.

Anyway. What’s she up to? “Right now, I’m just scrambling for work, trying to find a project that I love and that I’m into and get back in the saddle again,” she said. “I finished Prison Break and I did a guest star on The Big Bang Theory and it’s been about a month or so, since I’ve stopped working. I’m just reading scripts and looking for TV or some kind of film work right now. The industry is very very slow.”

Well, like everyone else, she’s hopeful that she does get some new work soon. “Like my mom always says, ‘From your lips to God’s ears,’” she said. “We’ll go with that one.”

“Final Break” time then, and she revealed that very point of the DVD–well, yeah, the reason why Michael died. “The question that everyone keeps asking me, that people say to me all the time is, ‘Michael’s really actually dead, is he? That’s crazy. That’s impossible,’” she said. “[In the show,] you kind of never know when someone is dead and when someone is not. I never know how to answer these questions, because I don’t think anyone would believe me anyway. No, I just don’t think anyone in the public is actually going to be convinced that Michael is actually not around.”

She hasn’t seen it, by the way, which is weird, considering her significant role on it. “Let’s have one last little hurrah and check out the [DVD],” she said. “I haven’t seen it yet, and I’m really excited for it.”

By the way, “The Final Break” hits shelves on July 21. The season four DVD is on shelves now, too.

The actress who plays Gretchen Morgan talks about the series and the upcoming DVD movie

Jodi Lynn O’Keefe certainly got off to a fast start in Hollywood. The actress landed the role of Marguerite Cory on the soap opera Another World when she was a sophomore in high school and was on the show for six years. Right after that she played Cassidy in all six seasons of Nash Bridges while also starring in films like Halloween: H20 and the teen flick She’s All That as high school hottie Taylor Vaughn. O’Keefe returned to the small screen in 2007 with her role of the devious Gretchen Morgan on Prison Break. The fourth and final season of the show just hit the DVD shelves this week on June 2 and fans of the hit Fox series will get some closure with the upcoming DVD movie, Prison Break: The Final Break, which comes to DVD and Blu-ray on July 21. I had the chance to speak with O’Keefe on the phone about this popular series and upcoming DVD, and here’s what she had to say.

So you came on during Season 3, so can you just talk about how you came on board to the show?

For a moment, let’s return to the events of the Prison Break finale. Michael was successful at bringing down the Company, but not without the casualties, in this case, his mother Christina. Kellerman returns and gets everyone out of their loopholes–well, all but T-Bag, who was imprisoned for everything he’s done. Four years later, Mahone’s got a new wife, and Sara’s given birth to her son. And Michael, as we all know, died. We should also remember that there is a feature-length episode, “The Final Break”, that will be released on DVD in July, and it will explain everything that happened in those four years, including Michael’s death. The catch is, that one’s been leaked online.

Well, not exactly. “The Final Break” was, surprisingly, aired in other countries. Originally composed of two episodes–”The Odd Ball and Chain” and “Free”–it was first aired in Israel, which was the version that leaked, and will be aired in the UK tonight. For obvious purposes I shall talk about what happened in those episodes, although I won’t leak as many details, because technically we already know what happened.

The following week, Sky1 will air the exclusive world premiere of another two-hour special, Prison Break: The Final Break, which will fill in the gap between the present day and the four-year flash forward.

So does Michael’s exasperated admission in the finale, “I don’t want to run anymore.” By then, fans are ready for an emotional catharsis, and boy, does the song “Lay It Down Slow” by Spiritualized get us there.

“We’re not big on montage songs, but it was a song that, for me, tied into the whole thing about Michael’s plight,” Olmstead said. “Which is basically: Lay it on me, I’ll take the weight so everybody else can flourish.”

The song plays, “If you got pain in your heart, why don’t you share it with me? . . . Lay it down free, lay it down easy, but lay it on me,” and we see some characters thriving, others paying for their sins, and eventually an origami crane. Some of the events along this journey made no sense, but that’s not what you’ll be thinking about when this love story reaches its final moment.

The two-hour Prison Break finale is just right there–this Friday already?–and there’s still a lot of questions raised, especially with the episode that aired last week. Lincoln’s shot, Sara’s in captivity, and Michael’s got to choose between the two. And we all know the finale won’t give happy endings to at least two people.

So, what exactly? I fear I don’t have answers, but there are some clues as to what might happen. Which means this–the next paragraphs contain spoilers. Consider that a warning.

Okay. Surely you’ve heard about some details that SpoilerTV leaked out–that Michael will die. Apparently, the flash-forward last scene in the finale will see Linc, Sucre, Mahone, Sara and her kid visiting Michael’s grave. Apparently, the events surrounding the death will be expanded in the extra two episodes that will be released on DVD. Apparently, he decided to sacrifice himself to save Sara, because he figured he’ll die anyway, with him having a tumor and all.

That sounds pretty valid, but I thought, they can’t just give this one up that easily, right?

The only thing I can definitely vouch for is that there will be more than one death in the finale. E! Online’s Kristin Dos Santos leaked that there’ll be two male deaths, and two females will be taken hostage. She also says a female character will bite the dust. (Speculation alert: Christina?) Add to that the character who’ll take a bullet to the chest (Linc?), the character who returns to Fox River, and the character who ends up in an electric chair, and we have more questions all of a sudden.

Perhaps the big question, especially for MiSa fans, is this: are they going to have a happy ending? I thought they would, but suddenly everything’s up in the air. “We literally cried tears of joy at the present-day ending of Prison Break,” Dos Santos spilled in her column. “The future ending of Prison Break, on the other hand, brought a different kind of tears. There’s quite some time between the present and future endings, so technically, Michael and Sara do have a happy ending.”
